INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGES
Póvoa de Varzim has been represented internationally at several literary festivals, through the already consolidated Correntes D'escritas Literary Festival. The exchanges revolve around the promotion of literature and the publishing market, in parallel with the promotion of Portuguese culture.
In Spain, Póvoa de Varzim is frequently represented at various literary festivals. In 2018, it took part in the calendar of the Compostela Book Week (SELIC) and in 2019 it hosted a Galician delegation of political decision-makers. The Punta Umbria Literary Festival featured the presentation of Correntes d'Escritas in one of its editions. It also participates in the Ibero-American Book Fair, as part of the networks of the Correntes d'Escritas Literary Festival.
In Brazil, Póvoa de Varzim's cooperation at the Poços de Caldas Literary Festival in 2019 focused on the challenges of curatorship, through its participation in a round table discussion on literary festivals composed of the organisers of different festivals.
In Africa, the Correntes d'Escritas Literary Festival is seen as strategic for the integration of countries of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP). Jorge Carlos Fonseca, president of CPLP and Cape Verde, participated in the opening ceremony of the 20th edition of the Festival, in 2019. In Cape Verde, Póvoa de Varzim was present at the Morabeza Book Festival, thus promoting the exchange of experiences between organisers.
Lastly, of note in terms of national cooperation was Póvoa de Varzim's participation in round tables at literary festivals, at the Folio Festival in Óbidos and at the Realizar Festival: poetry in Paredes de Coura.

NETWORKS
Póvoa de Varzim is also present on the European Cultural Itinerary of the Route of Santiago de Compostela. By transcending the spiritual aspect, the cultural exchanges between the cities are permanent and renewed and happen between the creative fields of UCCN: Literature itself – as a support for documentary or fictional narratives about the Route of Santiago de Compostela - and the synergies around Music, Crafts and Gastronomy. The Route of Santiago de Compostela represents an opportunity for the cities for local development based on culture and tourism. Póvoa de Varzim hosts, for this purpose, the International Route of Santiago de Compostela (2014-2018) Conferences to discuss common opportunities and strategies.
The networks of cities allow participating municipalities to cooperate, share ideas and experiences in order to achieve common goals, especially in the field of mobility, sustainable development, education and culture. Póvoa de Varzim, with this in mind, has joined some national and international networks with other cities, with similar characteristics and objectives that bring them together.
The Rocha Peixoto Municipal Library is part of the National Network of Public Libraries (RNBP). The network was created in 1987 with the purpose of establishing a public library in all Portuguese municipalities, while also providing technical support and/or funding. There are currently 238 libraries in the network.
The fact that it is located in the Metropolitan Area of Porto (AMP) already implies its participation in initiatives and projects that contribute to the enhancement of the cultural heritage of the cities covered. Of note in this respect are some of the various initiatives in which Póvoa de Varzim is involved in the cultural and heritage field: The iPorto project consists of a metropolitan agenda of cultural events, which makes the AMP cultural calendar available online, as well as information on cultural and leisure facilities and infrastructures; the PIN portal gathers in one site the museums and points of interest of the AMP's architectural and archaeological heritage and provides information on each site. Lastly, regarding the intangible heritage component, AMP provides another portal with audiovisual records of themes related to each municipality. In the case of Póvoa de Varzim, the municipality chose to highlight the Poveira Launch, a type of traditional boat of Póvoa de Varzim.
